JOHN NEWTON

A graduate of the Stevens Institute of Technology, John was a staff technician for Dolby Labs and Vanguard Records before founding Soundmirror in 1972. He headed the engineering department of the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood for fifteen seasons and was in charge of east coast operations of Soundstream, the pioneering digital recording company. A long professional relationship with Philips led to his serving as head of their recording department for two years. That relationship continued as John helped develop and promote the SACD format. John has provided design and manufacturing services for Studer and Lexicon. He has conducted seminars at McGill University, the Berklee College of Music, the Audio Engineering Society, and the Boston Audio Society. He is a frequent Grammy nominee and in 2008 won the Grammy for Best Engineered Classical Album.

MARK DONAHUE

Mastering engineer Mark Donahue has been with Soundmirror since 1992. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, with a degree in Performance/Sound Recording Technology, Mark has worked his way through virtually every engineering seat here at Soundmirror, including location engineer, editor, balance engineer and mastering engineer. In the last 5 years he has spent most of his time in the mastering studio, averaging more than 200 titles a year. In addition to his mastering duties, Mark is also Chief Technical engineer, responsible for maintaining the studio's technical excellence. Mark has consulted with many equipment and software manufacturers regarding product development, including Lexicon, Kurzweil, Steinberg and Cambridge Signal Technologies. In his copious free time, Mark has designed and manufactured products for Lexicon, custom recording and studio equipment for Soundmirror and rebuilds Studer and Ampex analog tape machines.

BLANTON ALSPAUGH

Blanton Alspaugh brings to Soundmirror many years of experience as a conductor in addition to his work as a producer, engineer and manager in commercial classical radio.
At Soundmirror, Blanton has produced and engineered recordings throughout North America, Europe and Asia He has a B.S. in Music Education from Tennessee Technological University, and a M.M. in Conducting from Rice University.

DIRK SOBOTKA

Dirk Sobotka received his Diplom-Tonmeister degree from the Hochschule fuer Musik, Detmold in 1996. His studies there were complemented by extensive internships at Tritonus Musikproduktion, Stuttgart; Deutsche Grammophon, Hannover; SoundByte Productions, New York City; and Bis Records, Stockholm.
From 1997 till 2004 Dirk worked as a recording and mastering engineer at SoundByte Productions in New York City. His credits during this period include work for labels such as Nonesuch Records, Teldec, EMI, Sony and BMG. In 2000 he was the recording and editing engineer of the first commercially released DVD-Audio containing a 192 kHz stereo layer.
He joined Soundmirror in July 2004, where his duties include extensive SACD recording and authoring, Radio Production as well as music production and sound for picture.

JESSE LEWIS

Jesse Lewis is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music Recording and Cello Performance programs. While there he established a reputation as a fine musician and audio engineer with a discerning ear. He brings great musicianship, technical expertise, and lots of energy to Soundmirror.

JESSE BRAYMAN

Jesse Brayman graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell with a degree in Music Performance and Sound Recording Technology. In the recording studio, he established a reputation for keeping the focus on the musicians and their music, while ensuring that technical aspects met the highest possible standard. Jesse's proficiency as a Jazz, Classical and R&B percussionist brings musical diversity to Soundmirror; as an engineer, his technical precision greets the challenges of remaining on the cutting edge of the recording industry

ALEXIS PRICE

Alexis Price is a graduate of Berklee College of Music with a degree in Music Business/Management. Preceding Soundmirror, Alexis worked in New York City as an Artist Management Assistant, Merchandise Manager, and Tour Manager. Combining her talents as an accomplished violinist and "road warrior", Alexis brings to Soundmirror the experience of handling artists both big and small as well as providing the people skills necessary in maintaining a studio.
